Bayern Munich reach Champions League semi-finals

Joshua Kimmich's header secures 3-2 aggregate victory over Arsenal

Bayern Munich 1-0 Arsenal (agg: 3-2)

Joshua Kimmich's bullet header saw Bayern Munich win 1-0 in their Champions League quarter-final second leg, claiming a 3-2 aggregate victory and knocking Arsenal out of the competition.

The German champions took the lead in the 63rd minute when Kimmich met a corner with a powerful header that gave Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale no chance.

Despite coming close on a number of occasions, the Gunners were unable to find an equaliser and Bayern held on to progress to the semi-finals, where they will face Real Madrid.

The victory was Bayern's 10th in a row in all competitions and extended their unbeaten run to 19 matches.

Arsenal, meanwhile, will be left to rue a number of missed chances, particularly in the second half.

The Gunners had the better of the first half and took the lead in the 11th minute when Bukayo Saka fired home from close range.

However, Bayern equalised just after the half-hour mark when Robert Lewandowski converted a penalty.

Arsenal regained the lead in the 75th minute when Leandro Trossard fired home a low shot from outside the area.

But Kimmich's late goal proved to be the decisive moment and Bayern held on to reach the semi-finals.
