Lincoln leaders prepare the way for Friday night’s gameday disruptions

City officials and school administrators release the plan to ensure a safe, enjoyable high school football game.

To ensure the safety of students, spectators, and community members, Lincoln Public Schools, Lincoln Police Department, and the City of Lincoln worked together to release a plan to minimize disruptions for this Friday night’s game against Omaha North at Memorial Stadium. Closures will begin at 4 p.m. and last until approximately 11 p.m. in the areas of:

•Vine Street between 10th and 14th streets •Memorial Drive between 9th and 14th streets •North 10th Street between 'O' Street and Vine Street •Haymarket Park Drive between Canopy Street and 7th Street •Karen Avenue between 8th and 9th streets

Vehicles may use P Street to access Canopy Street from the north and south. Closure times may vary slightly depending on weather and traffic conditions.

Parking and Traffic Information:

•Fans are encouraged to park in the Haymarket and walk to the stadium using the pedestrian bridges. •Accessible parking is available in lot B3 immediately south of Memorial Stadium. Fans with disabilities must display a valid state-issued accessible parking permit. •Beginning at 6 p.m. Haymarket Park Drive between Canopy Street and 7th Street will close to all traffic except city buses. •No drop-offs or pickups will be allowed in the Haymarket area during the road closures. •Ride-sharing services such as Uber and Lyft will be dropped off and picked up at the corner of Canopy and 9th streets. •Fans are encouraged to use public transportation to get to the game. The StarTran shuttle will run between Haymarket Arena and Memorial Stadium beginning at 5:30 p.m. The shuttle will run continuously until the end of the game.

Safety Measures:

•LPS and Lincoln Police will have a significant presence in the area to ensure the safety of fans and the community. •Fans are encouraged to be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement. •Fans are prohibited from bringing backpacks, large bags, weapons, alcohol, or illegal drugs into the stadium. Clear bags made of plastic, vinyl, or PVC no larger than 12" x 6" x 12" are permitted. •Fans are encouraged to arrive early to allow for additional security screening. •Fans with tickets for reserved seating should enter the stadium through Gate 1 or Gate 2. •Fans with general admission tickets should enter the stadium through Gate 3 or Gate 4.

Game Day Timeline:

•4 p.m. Road closures begin in the Haymarket •5:30 p.m. StarTran shuttle service begins between Haymarket Arena and Memorial Stadium •6 p.m. Haymarket Park Drive closes to all traffic except city buses •6:30 p.m. Gates open at Memorial Stadium •7:30 p.m. Kickoff
